• A few days into the stay at the manor, Weezer was up late at night making potions and such for future work.

  • He was making a huge racket, and so Darla came over to yell at him about it. Dr. Buzz came out, and CL3O intervened when they were about to get into a skirmish.

  • CL3O revealed that she was wandering the manor looking for Mr. Knight, who was avoiding taking his meds. Knight, who was in the vents and had previously blown his cover by sassing over text, texted Darla to plead that she not reveal he was nearby.

  • CL3O offered to give them some sleeping pills and a bedtime story, which Weezer and Darla agreed to for their own reasons (curiosity and mindgames respectively). They went to the sitting room and heard the tale of the Shadow Knight line.

  • The mantle stretches back three generations; the first Shadow Knight was a rich philanthropist who fell in love with Brine Lake and gradually became embittered by his attempts to help the poor and needy going awry because of corruption. He became a hardened, violent vigilante who often lightly mutilated his victims, often the rich and famous. Effective on many fronts, though.

  • At this point, CL3O hesitated to tell things beyond her clearance, but Mr. Knight entered and insisted they finish the story. And took his meds, despite hating them sooooo bad. Apparently if he doesn't take them he has snowballing nerve damage.

  • The first Shadow Knight's son swung the other way, adopting a hard code of conduct and softening many of his father's practices. He even tried to keep his two sons, Carter and Parker, out of the family business entirely.

  • This was doomed to fail, though, as someone named Scarlet Knight, who their father had an unspecified grudge with, attacked them while they were in a limo. Parker was killed entirely and then resurrected, though the details are fuzzy, and their father gave his life to protect them and end the grudge? I think? (Memory fuzzy)

  • So it turns out that for a long time there were two Shadow Knights, one of which was an optimist and the other of which was a pessimist. They balanced out, until Carter's debilitating accident. His brother is in the mantle full time helping the Justice Society now. They haven't spoken for months, partly because Parker thinks the villain kids rehab program thing is stupid and they're going to kill him when he can't fight back.

  • Weezer conveyed that Dr. Buzz feels much the same. He doesn't believe that anyone here can be trusted. Seems like Dr. Buzz is largely paranoid!

  • Darla thought it was stupid because they'd get sent right back to jail. Obviously. no other reason. Also the fact that they haven't done it yet should be a good clue that they won't on account of Mr. Knight being incredibly easy to kill, just look at him. He's like a sad wet dog who's also wheelchair bound

  • Anyway to keep down on noise they're gonna work on getting Weezer night access to the lab. Supervised

  • Some other things were discussed, most notably a sticker system for the teen squad. Darla turned it around and threatened to put Mr. Knight on a sticker system for his meds actually

  • She was met with a very genuine "you're thinking like a hero already :)" to which she said I hope you die choking on one of your pills and left to go get some sleep

  • Weezer passed tf out after taking one of the sleep meds. Bro was NOT getting enough hours in

  • It seemed like Darla and Weezer's relationship had improved marginally, from "I think you're a loser" to "I think you're a tolerable loser, and your alter sucks"… wowie…

  • (Weezer never held any ill intent at all, so uh, that's enough to add one star!)
